  • Whenever two nomina of the same nominal-series are strictly identical or deemed to be identical under the Rules of the Code, only one can be potentially valid (if not invalid for another reason). (Dubois 2013)

Scope note(s)

  • Code: The principle that the name of each taxon must be unique. Consequently a name that is a junior homonym of another name must not be used as a valid name.
