Principle of Zygoidy

Definition(s)

  • Within the frame of a given ergotaxonomy, a taxon recognized as valid at a given rank must bear a single nomen with a single spelling. Different situations of conflict of zygoidy may exist in this respect: 1) zygonymy: conflict between homonymous or synonymous nomina competing for validity; 2) zygography: conflict between spellings competing for correctness; and 3) zygophory: conflict between subsequent onomatophore designations competing for validity. These conflicts must be resolved, according to the situation, through use of one of the following Principles: Priority, Airesy, Proedry, Nomography or Sozoidy. (Dubois 2013)
