  • AN AMERICAN CANCER specialist, Brian Druker was the joint winner, with Nicholas B. Lydon, of the Charles F. Kettering Prize of the General Motors Cancer Foundation in 2002 for “contributions to the identification and clinical development of the tyrosine kinase inhibitor STI-571 (Gleevec™), a prototype targeted therapeutic, with efficacy in the treatment of patients with chronic myelogenous leukemia (C.M.L.), gastrointestinal stromal tumors (G.I.S.T.), and possibly other malignancies.” Brian Jay Druker was born on April 30, 1955, in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Jean S.
