Mormonism

Définition(s)

  • Mormonism is the widely used name of a religion founded in 1830 in western New York by Joseph Smith and which, by the end of the 20th century, had become a rapidly growing global religious movement with branches around the world. Members are typically referred to as “Mormons.” However, the official name is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (or the LDS Church), and members refer to themselves as Latter-day Saints or LDS. Of American origin, the LDS Church has developed a global presence since the 1980s. [Source: Encyclopedia of Global Studies; Mormonism]
