- Classroom observation is a term used to describe when an individual (school psychologist, principal, counselor, etc.) sits in a room of students and a teacher and examines the behaviors of students or a student. There are several common observation approaches that are used in classrooms.Types of Observations and Recording TechniquesOne of the most common ways to observe and record a behavior is to use a frequency count, which is when the observer counts the number of times the behavior occurs over a period of time.
