hostility: measurement

Définition(s)

  • The measurement of hostility is an important issue for behavioral medicine researchers and health care practitioners because some studies have found that hostile people are at increased risk of developing physical disorders such as heart disease and high blood pressure. (For a review, see Miller, Smith, Turner, Guijarro, & Hallet, 1996.) Researchers have defined hostility in a variety of ways, but most definitions describe the hostile person as someone who is consistently cynical toward others, expecting them to be untrustworthy, self-interested, and potentially threatening.
