Définition(s)

  • The Church Committee was the commonly used name of the U.S. Senate Select Committee to Study Governmental Operations with Respect to Intelligence Activities, which met for sixteen months in 1975 and 1976. The committee, chaired by Senator Frank Church (D-Idaho), was established in the wake of allegations in a December 22, 1974, New York Times article presenting instances of the intelligence community operating with little oversight, engaging in assassination attempts of foreign leaders, and collecting information on the political activities of U.S. citizens in violation of the Fourth Amendment.
