infection

Définition(s)

  • NUMEROUS CARCINOGENS(or cancer-causing agents) have been implicated for their role in cancer causation; some biological organisms that cause infection are among these. Infection has been defined as the “invasion by and multiplication of pathogenic (capable of causing disease) microorganisms in a bodily part or tissue which may produce subsequent tissue injury and progress to overt disease through a variety of cellular or toxic mechanisms.” Although numerous microorganisms have been implicated for their role in cancer causation, only those that have been classified as Group 1 carcinogens (carcinogenic to humans) by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) are examined in this article.
