steroidal estrogens
Définition(s)
- ESTROGENS—FOR EXAMPLE, estradiol and 17β-estradiol—the primary female sex-hormone, belong to the family of steroid hormones that are selectively taken up by target organs, distant from the site of its release. Steroid hormones, a major class of hormones, are composed of four interconnected rings of carbon atoms that readily pass through the cell membrane and bind to intracellular receptors, or recognition sites for hormone molecules.
