Everleigh sisters

Définition(s)

  • The Everleigh sisters, Ada (February 15, 1864-January 5, 1960) and Minna (July 13, 1866-September 16, 1948), operated the Everleigh Club, a famous high-class brothel in Chicago, Illinois, from 1900 until 1911. The club was described by Chicago's Vice Commission as “the most famous and luxurious house of prostitution in the country.” The sisters’ notions of prostitution positioned harlots not as lost women devoid of virtue but as investments, deserving nutritious meals, thorough education, expert medical care, and competitive wages.
