  • The concept of community corrections consists of both nonincarcerative alternatives to prison and intermediate sanctions that utilize community resources in official responses to criminal behavior. Nonincarcerative alternative sanctions include various forms of probation, parole, day reporting centers, monetary restitution, fines, fees, electronic monitoring, house arrest, intensive supervision programs, halfway houses, community service, residential programs, and boot camps, generally embracing a “rehabilitative ideal.” Probation and Parole The two cornerstones of community corrections, probation and parole, provide supervision and limited control of offenders outside jail and prison facilities.
