In Wood, the U.S. Supreme Court found that board members may be sued for monetary damages in school disciplinary proceedings under civil rights law, particularly 42 U.S. Code, Section 1983, but only under specified conditions.The Basic RulingAs a case of first impression, Wood focused on the procedural due process rights of students in Arkansas who were subjected to long-term suspensions for the use of alcoholic beverages at school.
