emergency contraception

Définition(s)

  • Also known as the “morning after” pill, emergency contraception is the use of high doses of standard birth control pills that can prevent pregnancy in most cases if taken within a specified time period after unprotected sex. Long used by rape crisis centers and university health services, many advocates called it “the best-kept secret in America.” A 2004 survey by the Kaiser Family Foundation found that a third of women between ages eighteen and forty-four had never heard of the practice.
