Although the march from Tiananmen Square was orderly when it began, the day ended with violence—Chinese foreign minister Cao Rulin's residence was sacked; the minister to Japan, Zhang Zongxiang, was beaten up; fighting broke out between students and police, resulting in one student death; and 32 students were arrested.
