Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906

  • The Pure Food and Drug Act (PFD), passed in 1906, is one of the earliest pieces of major consumer protection legislation at the federal level (and precedes most state legislation related to it), and was signed into law on the same day as the Federal Meat Inspection Act (FMI), which had similar aims. The PFD, which became Public Law 59-384 after being passed, has been amended by numerous bills since and has anointed the U.S. [Source: The Social History of the American Family: An Encyclopedia; Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906]
