- Marshall D. Sahlins, a prominent and highly esteemed anthropologist and ethnographer, is recognized internationally for his theory of the historicity and pervasiveness of culture in everyday life and the process of cultural change. Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Sahlins completed his undergraduate work at the University of Michigan and his graduate work at the University of Michigan and Columbia University.
