Definición
- Long-distance relationships (LDRs) are defined here as occurring among individuals who have an expectation for a continued close connection and their communication opportunities are limited, in the views of the relational participants, due to geographic separation. Long-distance (LD) status has been ascribed based on relational participants' reports of the miles between them, of their residence in different cities, of the number of nights a week they spend apart, their inability to see each other every day if they so desire, or simply if they consider themselves to be in an LDR. LDRs are of interest because they exist and generally thrive in contradiction to assumptions concerning necessity of frequent face-to-face interaction for the maintenance of close relational bonds.
