Definición
- It is often insufficiently appreciated that a child born in 1900 had an almost 10% chance of dying before reaching age 4 years, most often as a result of diarrheal diseases or pneumonia. The global life expectancy at birth, slightly over 30 years in 1900, increased mostly during the second half of the past century, particularly as a result of three interventions: sanitation, anti-microbials, and vaccination.
