vice president

Definición

  • Throughout much of its history the office of the vice president has had little esteem and a lot of ridicule. Benjamin Franklin once quipped that the vice president should be addressed as “Your Superfluous Excellency.” Daniel Webster, when offered the vice-presidential slot on the 1848 Whig Party ticket, declined, saying, “I do not propose to be buried until I am dead.” Constitutionally, the vice presidency was born weak and has not grown much stronger.
