Atlanta University School of Sociological Research

Definición

  • The Atlanta University School of Sociological Research (AUSSR) is a term of recent vintage intended to highlight the historical importance of work conducted under the auspices of the university in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The accomplished scholar and social justice advocate W. E. B. Du Bois (1868–1963) became the principal researcher and coordinator of the AUSSR. The Atlanta University School was notable for its general mission—to discover social scientific truth about African Americans as the basis for racial uplift—and also for its incorporation of students, scholars, and community members into a multifaceted and long-term research agenda.
