- The sociological perspective of the relationship between religion and crime is focused on several key areas. In addition to the basic application of the major theoretical perspectives in sociology to the nature of the relationship between religion and crime, this focus includes substantive examinations of social issues and processes such as religious fundamentalism and religiously motivated violence and criminality, religion and terrorism, religion as a protective factor against criminal behavior, the role of religious organizations and their response to crime, religion and morality, and types of religious criminality.
