Definición

  • Plessy v. Ferguson (1896) is the notorious “separate but equal” case in which the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the Jim Crow segregation laws as constitutional. Although the phrase “separate but equal” does not appear in the decision itself, the doctrine it represents gave legal sanction to legalized segregation.
