skid row culture and history

Definición

  • Skid row derives from “skid road,” the rough-and-tumble waterfront street in nineteenth-century Seattle where logs were skidded to the sawmills. Although it is now pejoratively associated with seedy mid-twentieth-century urban districts littered with drunken derelicts, skid row has a complex history.
