  • A GERMAN PHARMACOLOGIST, toxicologist, and cancer specialist, Norbert Bock was the winner of the Charles F. Kettering Prize of the General Motors Cancer Foundation in 1995 for his role in “developing the concept and application of prodrugs and for his seminal role in the development of cyclosphosphamide, ifosfamide, and mesna; drugs currently used in the curative treatment of cancer.” Norbert Brock was born on May 26, 1912, at Dorsten, Westfalen, Germany, the son of Johannes Brock and Franziska (née Hunecke). He gained his medical degree from the University of Düsseldorf in 1935, completing his medical studies at the University of Freiburg, graduating in 1936.
