differential association theory

Definición

  • Differential association is a sociological theory developed by Edwin H. Sutherland that posits that crime and deviance are learned through interactional contexts. Published more than 60 years ago, this was the first scientific theory to make such an assertion, and although published more than 60 years ago, it continues to inform understandings of crime and deviance.
