fault and spousal support

Definición

  • Spousal support, otherwise known as alimony or maintenance, originated in Anglo-American law as a result of a confluence of diverse laws and social circumstances tied inexorably to the unique law of coverture that had prevailed in England from the late medieval period. The law of coverture provided that, upon marriage, all of a woman's personal property would be deemed to be owned entirely by her husband for the duration of the marriage, and all real property would be controlled and managed by him during his life.
