semipresidentialism

Definición

  • Semipresidentialism is a constitutional type that combines a popularly elected head of state with a head of government who is responsible to a popularly elected legislature. Semipresidentialism is therefore a mixed regime form that combines features of parliamentarism, which prescribes a fusion of powers and mutual dependence between executive and legislative powers, and presidentialism, which is, in contrast, characterized by a separation of powers and mutual independence of executive and legislative powers.
