Maori media and social movements

Definición

  • Generally speaking, contemporary forms of Māori media in Aotearoa/New Zealand have developed in tandem with Māori social movements for Tino Rangatiratanga (Indigenous sovereignty). The concerns of these social movements came to the forefront in the late 1960s to the early 1980s, a period identified by some as the “Māori Renaissance” because of a noticeable resurgence in articulations of political and cultural identity among Māori in the face of continuing expression of settler colonialism within state and civil society.
