Arizona Waste Characterization Study

  • The Arizona waste characterization study was conducted by archaeologist William Rathje and his team in 1973, and it was one of the first major studies in modern garbology (the archaeology of garbage). Rathje (1945–) was then a new professor at the University of Arizona and was the director of the Cozumel Archaeological Project sponsored by National Geographic.
