  • Between the United States and Spain (April 21–August 12), brief war fought mainly in the Spanish colonial territories of Cuba and the Philippines and considered a turning point in the history of U.S. foreign relations. Victory in the Spanish-American War quickly went to the United States, and peace negotiations resulted in U.S. control over Cuba, and the annexation of Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines.
