grand narratives

Definición

  • Following the work of Jean-Francois Lyotard, grand narratives (also known as grands récits, master narratives or meta narratives) refers to all-encompassing bodies of knowledge that purport to offer general and sweeping explanations of history, nature, and every aspect of the human condition. These bodies of knowledge were a chief feature of modernity, though they also existed in earlier historical periods. [Source: International Encyclopedia of Organization Studies; Grand Narratives]
