  • Ruth Shonle Cavan, who received her Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Chicago in 1928, was one of the most productive scholars of that era. She also was one of the few women from the Chicago School to receive national and to some extent international recognition for her scholarship in the family, juvenile delinquency, and criminology.
