techniques of neutralization

Definición

  • Techniques of neutralization (or neutralization theory) refers to a set of cognitive mechanisms used to rationalize or excuse wrongdoing. Offenders are able to use these cognitive mechanisms to mitigate the guilt resulting from their involvement in criminality; this allows them to engage in behaviors counter to their moral values with little damage to their self-image.
