Susan Rubin Suleiman

Definición

  • Susan Rubin Suleiman, a mother of two sons, is the C. Douglas Dillon Professor of the Civilization of France and Professor of Comparative Literature at Harvard University, where she obtained her Ph.D. She is the author and editor of numerous books and articles on the concept of motherhood, where she focuses on a mother's subjectivity and her inner world. In her essays, Suleiman discusses personal, social, and cultural determinants of a mother's conflicts. At the center of her investigation is a writer or any creative woman who feels herself torn between two seemingly irreconcilable allegiances: on the one hand, her love for her child and her commitment to him/her, and on the other, her commitment to her own creative self and creative needs.
