In her essays, Suleiman discusses personal, social, and cultural determinants of a mother's conflicts.At the center of her investigation is a writer or any creative woman who feels herself torn between two seemingly irreconcilable allegiances: on the one hand, her love for her child and her commitment to him/her, and on the other, her commitment to her own creative self and creative needs.
