National Association of People with AIDS

Definición

  • The National Association of People with AIDS (NAPWA) is the oldest organization lobbying for the rights of people living with AIDS. In 1983, mostly gay and lesbian AIDS patients advising the Second National AIDS forum founded NAPWA as a means of transmitting their concerns as patients to governmental bodies making decisions on their behalf. Then, as now, the group focused strongly on ensuring that they did not become ‘victims’ of AIDS, and places much importance on training HIV positive people to become advocates in their own treatment, care, and policies.
