Humans have two general patterns of fat distribution: androidal (commonly referred to as central or abdominal/truncal adiposity) and gynoidal (lower-body/peripheral adiposity), or described more colloquially by Marie Savard as “apple-shaped” or “pear-shaped,” respectively.
