theory of the cycle of violence

Definición

  • Intimate partner violence has become a national and global public health and welfare problem. Much research has been conducted on the myriad issues related to intimate partner violence, including but not limited to the incidence and prevalence of violence and victimization, theories of battering behavior by the abuser, and theories explaining the behavior of the victim, which attempt to answer the long-standing question: Why doesn't she (or he) leave? This entry attempts to provide an answer to that question with a thorough discussion of the cycle of violence theory, which was originally developed by Lenore Walker in 1979.
