- Political policing, though it might have had its genesis in previous American and European history, is seen as a 20th-century phenomenon. Political policing is defined as the police's curbing of political expressions and activities of the people, which can be in the form of protests, demonstrations, sit-ins, town hall meetings, walks, and others.
