Definition(s)
- Mate selection refers to the process by which an individual chooses, or is chosen by, a potential partner from the pool of eligibles and the factors that predict the formation, maintenance, escalation, or dissolution of a long-term, romantic relationship over time. As part of the process, each individual is thought to consciously or unconsciously evaluate one's fit with a partner on a wide variety of social, personal, and relationship characteristics.
