Methodenstreit
Definition(s)
- The Methodenstreit (dispute over methods) began in 1883 as an argument between the Austrian school economist Carl Menger of the University of Vienna and the German Historical school scholar Gustav von Schmoller of the University of Berlin. The dispute ostensibly concerned the appropriate research methodology for economics—methodology being a fundamental concern for any area of study.
