Concept information

Preferred term

discursive institutionalism

Definition(s)

  • The term discursive institutionalism is an umbrella concept for the wide range of works in political science that focus on the substantive content of ideas and the interactive processes of discourse by which they are generated and communicated in given institutional contexts. This makes for a definition that is somewhat broader than when the same or similar terms are used by those who focus primarily on the substance of political agents' ideas in the ideational turn or on the text in discourse analysis.
