Concept information
Preferred term
logocentrism
Definition(s)
- Logocentrism describes a predisposition to privilege logos, which is the Greek term for thought, speech, law, or reason, as the central foundation of philosophy. Although critiquing logocentrism is by no means unique to the work of Jacques Derrida, deconstruction is Derrida's response to Western logocentric tendencies.
