Patrick Henry

Definition(s)

  • Patrick Henry (1736–1799), born in Virginia as a member of the gentry, was a gifted speaker who persuaded the opposition within his influential state to agree to the adoption of the U.S. Constitution. As a young man, Henry was not particularly bookish, and rather than continue his education, he apprenticed at fifteen as a clerk to a merchant.
