Search-and-rescue operations are conducted by many different organizations, from local law enforcement agencies to international humanitarian organizations, and specific search-and-rescue techniques have been developed for many different situations, from land searches for survivors of disasters (such as earthquakes or floods) to searches for ships or persons lost or in distress at sea.
