Preferred term

occupational violence

Definition(s)

  • During the past three decades, several studies, notably in victimology, criminology, public health, management, as well as occupational and industrial medicine, have explored the link between different occupations and violent victimization. As a result, occupational violence is now recognized as one of the most serious occupational hazards, which can have dire consequences on the physical and psychological well-being of employees and can cause significant economic and social costs to organizations and the wider community.
