  • Crime mapping is a technique used by law enforcement agencies and academics to visualize and analyze crime data using geographic information systems (GIS). It can be used to map police activity and crime reduction efforts, identify recently committed crimes, “hot spots,” predict where crime is most likely to occur in the future, understand the patterning and distribution of crime within a geographical area, and assess and evaluate the impact of crime-combating policies.
