Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965

Definition(s)

  • The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 changed the racial and ethnic landscape of the United States drastically by eliminating the quotas placed on the number of immigrants from non-European countries who would be allowed entry into the United States. The passage of this act brought about an enormous change in the sources of new immigration, compared with the previous U.S. experience.
