Preferred term

defensible space theory

Definition(s)

  • Defensible space theory asserts that the design of physical space influences the way that both residents of an area and outsiders interact with that space, especially in urban areas. A space within or outside a building is considered defensible space when the residents or occupants of the building are able to extend their personal control into that space.
