- The responsibility of a therapist or a counselor to breach confidentiality when a patient or client identifies someone who is in clear or imminent danger. In these situations, the therapist or counselor must determine the seriousness of the situation and, in some situations or jurisdictions, notify the potential victim and/or others who might be able to protect the person.
