Preferred term

history of cancer

Definition(s)

  • IN ALMOST ALL ancient civilizations, the practice of medicine represented an amalgamation of religion and magic, attributing disease diagnosis and therapeutics to the supernatural. Because religion and religious ideology dictated the practice of medicine, it almost seemed imperative that medical science would be dominated by magical charms, rituals, and appeasement of deities, which in turn were controlled by the state.
